Křivoklát is one of the most important castles of the Czech Republic. Its predecessor was the hunters' shelter, mentioned in the historical chronicle as far back as 1109. The works on stone castle were started under the reign of King Vaclav I in the 13th century. Many celebrations, feasts and important political events were held in the halls of the castle till 1929 when it was sold to the state.
